Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival

Jordan went to the Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival at Rainier Vista West Central Park on Saturday 9/22.  He found our next-door neighbors Kyle & Yixi there. Yixi talked about the Mid-Autumn Festival in North China where she grew up.  We ate moon cake made from lotus seed & another made from nuts. Vietnamese women danced. Children walked in a circle with lanterns. The crowd was mostly Vietnamese & Somali.

August Garden 2018

Western Sword Fern (Polythichum munitum)

Sedum 'Autumn Joy'

Chamaecyparis lawsoniana 'Golden Surprise' (Lawson Cypress)

Logs with moss & licorice ferns (Polypodium glycyrrhiza)

Heuchera chlorantha (Tall Alumroot)

Chamaecyparis nootkatensis 'Glauca Compacta' (Dwarf Alaskan Cedar)

August 2018 was hotter & much drier than normal.  The lack of rain continued a trend started in May.  The mean temperature was 2.7 degrees above normal at 68.8 degrees.  The highest temperature was 94 on 8/8.  The lowest was 53 on 8/25.  Total rainfall was 0.20 inches, 0.68 inches below normal. When Jordan & Rusty went to the Triangle Recreation Campground for one night, Jordan walked the trails picking up fallen branches covered with moss, lichen & licorice ferns. He placed all of the mossy branches in the garden at home & watered them. It rained later that night.
