February Snow 2019

It snowed for a few hours on Sunday afternoon Feb 3. The temperature had dropped from 42 to 31 during the day. The snow was thick in the sky at times. Because the ground temperature was well above freezing, the snow melted immediately on the sidewalks & streets. It covered the plants with a thin layer. It was quite pretty for a moment & then it was dark.

It snowed heavily the next morning Feb 4 until noon, with 6 inches on the ground. The temperature was 27. It was the most snow since the big snowstorm of December 2008, with 20 inches. Rusty & Steve stayed home from work. So did most of our neighbors. Schools were closed. The temperature rose to 31 that afternoon.

It was 20 degrees on Tuesday morning Feb 5. Most of the snow still remained on the ground. The street in front of our house was covered with a thin sheet of frozen snow. The alley was filled with chunks of frozen snow & ice. Rusty & Steve drove to work. The sky was clear & the bright sunlight reflected blindingly off the white snow. The temperature rose to 34 in the afternoon & the snow in the streets mostly melted, but not in the shade.

It was also 20 degrees on Wednesday morning Feb 6. The alley was still partly covered with ice. The garden was still covered in snow. The temperature rose to 37 & the snow melted a little bit more. It was about half as deep (3 inches) as it had been 2 days before. It was 20 again on Thursday morning Feb 7. The high was 39 that day. It seemed odd that the low temperature stayed the same, while the high temperature kept rising.

There was still snow in the garden on Friday Feb 8.
